ayman al zawahri in his audio message
Well, Al Qaeda has finally reacted to the Annapolis agreement which saw Israel and Palestine agree to reopen their stalled talks. The message from the international terror organisation’s number two Ayman Al Zawahri may look a normal Al Qaeda reaction to peceful negotiations but the message carries significance for the democratic Islamic countries.

Terror experts have pointed out to the fact that Al Qaeda is feeling lonely in its worldwide call to unite Muslims against Israel and the United States of America given that most of the Arab countries are positive about peace in the region after years of senseless violence. Yet the newest call from Al Qaeda to launch radical Islamic attacks against western friendly nations cannot be taken lightly. After the recent Algiers bombing another attack could be imminent if past experiences are to go by. On many previous occasions messages from Al Qaeda’s top operational leaders were followed by deadly suicide bombings across the world.

Another country which has been targeted by Ayman Al Zawahri in his tape is his native land of Egypt. The regional power led by liberal President Hosni Mubarak has been an advocate of peace with Israel over the years and is the first Arab country to have a lasting peace deal with the Jewish state. Al Zawahri has been designated a terrorist in Egypt which does not tolerate Islamic fundamentalism. The number two of Al Qaeda wants Egyptians to revolt against the rule of President Mubarak which in turn would lead him to have a greater say in future Egyptian politics.

But one thing is clear that the west, led by the US, has somewhat been able to unite the Arabs which could be helping in having a lasting peace between Israel and Palestine and this would be the only way to stop Al Qaeda for the terror group’s strength lies in the continuous conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians. Any sort of peace deal would substantially decrease Al Qaeda’s recruit base which boasts of a large Palestinian youth community.
