Al-Qaida claims to fight in Iraq for an Islamic State

The top terrorist organisation al-Qaeda in Iraq, led by Jordanian militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, has explained the reasons for its terror campaign and states that they are not fighting the US occupation of Iraq, but to create “an Islamic state which is part of the caliphate and the Muslim territory” in a statement, posted on the Internet. The message appeared on October 18, just a few days ahead of a visit to Baghdad by the secretary general of the Arab League, Amr Moussa.
