The Indonesian government is under mounting pressure from other countries, in particular Australia to ban the Muslim terrorist organisation Jamaah Islamiyah (JI). The JI has already put in the list of terrorist organisation by the UN, the US and Australia. However, a secton of even moderate Muslims in Indonesia are averse to such suggestion. They say that such a step will land an ‘aura of illegality’ to the JI, making it even more popular. The JI is believed to be the behind the Bali explosions on October 01 this year and in September last year. Singapore and Malaysia, two neighbouring states of Indonesia have are equipped with Internal Security Acts to deal with the terrorists.
