Bangladesh, which came into existence only four decades ago as an independent country following the partition of Pakistan, is a predominantly Muslim country but has always remained steeped into liberal and rich traditions of communal amity, leaving little space for sectarian approach. However, the recent incidents have threatened the communal fabric of the Bangladeshi society and endangered its ages-old values for secularism. A senior Indian journalist, Hiranmay Karlekar, who has adopted Bengal as his state, has come out with a book: Bangladesh: The Next Afghanistan, published by the Sage(India).
It is ironical that while the Communist Party of India (Marxist) continue to rule the roast in West Bengal, a province of India (Came into existence following the partition of Bengal province during the British Raj) for about three decades in a democratic manner, The Bangladesh, once boasting a Left leader of the stature of Maulana Bhashani, has become haven for Islamic terrorists in South East Asia.
THe book is a welcome one for the general readers who are interested in keeping update with the scorage of terrorism in the World and in particular South East Asia.
