The Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez who is emerging as the US enemy no. one, brackeeted with Fiedel CCastro of Cuba, has urhed Venezuelan parents not to let their children dress up as witches and ghouls for Halloween, calling it a ‘game of terror’ - a US custom with no place in the South American country’s cultural traditions. Chavez is not alone in adopting such puritan postures. In some Asian countries, the purantists have come out with such advices such as boycotting the Valentine Day and describing them as attacks leading to cultural imperialism. Can we, in this age of globalization, embark on such narrow approaches?
