Public feelings in India and Pakistan have been aroused on the waxing issue of Kashmir in both the countries by the successive governments that normal relations between the two does not seem to be in the offing. For instance, the petty issue of help between the two armies during the hour of distress in the wake of massive earthquake’s devastation has been blown out of proportions by the both.
India publicised the incident in such a manner that it looked as it scored a point over Pakistan. Pakistan was quick to retaliate by denying categorically that its soldiers ever asked any assistance from their counterparts in India. India too came with an explanation that a Pakistani patrol party came to the Line of Control (LoC), dividing Kashmir, and asked for shovels and pickaxes. Indian soldiers gave the Pakistani personnel some implements, with which they dug up earth, looking for survivors. They retrieved some weapons and returned the tools.
