The renewed focus on Afghanistan after US realized that they are kicking rear in Iraq; foreign troops killed eight civilians when they opened fire on a crowd after a bomb struck a military vehicle in eastern Afghanistan yesterday.
The fading hopes are already heard with growing doubts about the effectiveness of the troops. Will the tragic incidents like these lead to defined and achievable outcome? Alternatively, I think the trap is working very well for the Taliban.
It is virtually impossible to get out of Afghanistan however, greater cooperation between Afghan, Pakistani, U.S., and NATO militaries and above all winning hearts and minds of tribal people on the border areas within Afghanistan as well as Pakistan is what needed to destroy the sinister.
However, it looks like this is as late as the renewed focus on Afghanistan. If good intentions and serious efforts were what it takes, Afghanistan would be a peaceful democracy today, but war on the Taliban regime starting in 2001, followed by a half decade security, democratization, and reconstruction effort, have left a frayed and fading vision of sustainable peace.
