Kickbacks and corruption have become so endemic that these issues, eating the vitals of Democracy, no longer stir the conscience of people. The Volcker Committee report on the United Nations Oil-for-Food Programme, 2001 has named K. Natwar Singh, India’s Foreign Affairs Minister, the ruling Congress party, headed by Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, of Italian origin, and Bhim Singh, a maverick small-time politician from Jammu & Kashmir province in India. For democracy, kickbacks and corruption coupled with lack of transparency in transactions are no less threat than the menace of terrorism.
