“Latin America is today a continent of inequality. The gap between the richest and the poorest is highest in the world”, said Mr Juan Carretero Ibanez, Ambassador of Cuba to India. He was talking to journalists of The Hindu newspaper.
“Another world is possible”. This is the message of the resurgence of the Left in Latin America and the growing unpopularity of the United States in the region which has 45 per cent of people living below the poverty line.
Referring to the recent Left victories in Latin American nations, including Venezuela and Bolivia, he said, ” People in this region are tired. They need education. They need health.”
Mr. Sergion Corrieri Hernandez, President of the Instituto Cubano de Amistad con los Pueblos and a member of the central committee of the Cuban Communist Party said Americans knew only what was shown on CNN television. “They do not know what the real world is. They are not bad people but they are ignorant people.”
