Strange are the mindsets of the majority of Muslims. A prominent Urdu newspaper in India, claiming to be the voice of Muslims in India, screams in a headline “Sharon ki maut par jashn manaya jayega” ( Sharon’s death will be celebrated). Indian Muslims have to do nothing with the Palestinian counterparts except the common bond of Islam. Indian leaders, for several decades, decided to extend whole-hearted support to the Palestine cause merely on account of political expediency. Indian Muslims seem to be unaware of the developments that even Palestinian leaders are keeping their fingers crossed and are apprehensive aboot the exit of Sharon from the political arena as only Sharon could have mustured courage to vacate the Gaza strip.



Writing in The Times of India, Mohammed Wajihuddin laments about the ‘regressive rant by those who call themselves the custodians of Islam, or one more litany in the Urdu language newspapers in India on the wrongs done to the Muslim community worldwide’.



He adds: “Muslims, madrassas, reservations in a Muslim university, a mosque under threat, another lavish one being built, Muslims being oppressed from Kashmir to Kandahar and Baghdad to Bradford, Bosnia, Palestine, Afghanistan. These are the staples that Urdu language dailies thrive on.”
