Another predominantly Muslim country has fallen prey to the menace of terrorism. It is Nigeria, West Africa’s leader and one of the world’s leading oil producers. It has been revealed that it is listed by Osma bin Laden among five apostate states, ripe for revolution. However, no al-Qaeda action has been reported from this country so far. But, a senior security official publickly acknowledged while speaking to the Vanguard, a leading Nigerian English daily newspaper, the presence of up to 10,000 illegal armed men in a variety of militias in the Nigar Delta of the country, where almost all of Nigeria’s 2.5 million barrels a day of light and sweet crude are pumped. Many of these groups have ties to al-Qaeda linked groups such as the Algerian Salafist Group for Preaching & Combat (GSPC).
