Mukhtaran Mai, the Pakistani gangrape victim, who single-handedly waged a battle on her rapists against all odds, has received accolades and support from around the world, says the Washington Post. Her battle has made a tremendous difference to the Pakistan society. Her village Meerwala’s tribal tribunal has been dissolved because they are now scared of her. At least 27 Muslim organisations in the US signed a petition in support of her saying secular violence is not, nor has ever been, a legitimate means of punishment in Islam.
