In a clarion message on the eve of Ed al-Adha on January 10, the grand mufti of Saudi Arabia, Sheik Abdul-Aziz-al-Sheik told more than two million Muslim pilgrims: “The Shariat does not allow terrorism. Islam literally means peace. Brothers, unite for one another’s sake and follow Islam”.



The massive Haj pilgrims’ gathering emphatically responded with a ‘yay’ at the Nimrah mosque. The message is a welcome one as Islam has been synonym with terrorism during the last ten years. But if it comes out as a response to prevailing Islamophobia, gripping the West and the U.S. in particular and merely a lip service to silence the swelling number of detractors of Islam in the world, it should be read cautiously.
