Acharya Rajneesh, Bhagwan (god) Osho to millions of his followers all over the world, has written in his book “Beyond Psychology”: Terrorism is related to what is happening in society. Society is falling apart. Discipline, morality, religion, everything has lost its power over people’s conscience.
Terrorism has many undercurrents. Because of nuclear weapons, nations are pouring their energy into that field. Old weapons may be out of date, but individuals can still use them. You cannot use nuclear weapons against individuals. Individual terrorists throw bombs.
He wrote it long ago when the wings of terrorism were restricted to only a few countries. At present, even some countries have become rogue by overtly and covertly propping up, supporting, pampering and nourishing the menace of terrorism and exporting it to other countries in a bid to settle scores.
Osho prophetically forwarned: Terrorism is going to become bigger, because a third world war is near impossible. Terrorism simply means that what was being done on a large scale is now being done individually. It can only be prevented if we change the very base of human understanding. This is a Himalayan task; more so because thyese same people whom you want to change will fight you; they won’t allow you to change them easily.
He added: All things are interconnected. The first thing that has to be changed is that man should be made more rejoicing for socalled religions have killed the spirits. Organised religions has destroyed all possibility of rejoicing. It has destroyed the possibility of enjoying small things of life; it has condemned everything that nature provides you to make you happy.
A man who is living in confort cannot become a terrorist. Religions have condemned riches and praised poverty. A man who is a rich cannot be a terrorist. Only the poor can be terrorists because they have nothing to lose, and they are seething against the whole of society because others have things they don’t have.
You live in fear, not in joy. If we can clean the base of the human mind’s unconscious, it can be cleansed of hate. Terrorism is not in bombs; terrorism is in your unconscious. If we don’t transform ourselves we are going to grow more bitter. And it seems all kinds of ignorant people have bombs in their hands and are throwing them at random.
Osho did not elaborate to tell that a rich person can be a conveyor belt for terrorists. And that is what is happening today.
