Though the bifurcation of India gave birth to Pakistan way back in 1947, fiftyeight years ago, the mutual distrust and suspicion between the two neighbours continue to prawl to the extent that it seems that none will grow and mature ever. For instance the latest diplomatic spat between India and Pakistan.

Mohammed Nadeem, a driver with a Pakistani diplomat had a tiff with a Delhi hawker. He decided to establish his bona fides by saying he was Pakistani and a member of the High Commission in New Delhi. After a sizeable crowd gathered around, a police patrol party too wandered over. Nadeem did not have any identification. So he had to be spirited away to a nearby police station where his employer was summoned by the police.

The employer, counsellor Moazzam Ahmed Khan, also arrived without any identification and was promptly dispatched back to home to retrieve both his and the drivera’s ID papers. After some time, both were let off.
“The police officers behaved courteously with both the Pakistani diplomat and his driver. Before leaving, Mr Moazzam Ahmad Khan thanked the SHO for his cooperation,” the Indian spokesperson claimed.

However, In Islamabad, this explanation was clearly insufficient for the Pakistan foreign office and on Thursday (Nov. 3), they called in an Indian counsellor, Gitesh Sharma, to protest the incident, and the treatment meted out to the Pakistani diplomat.
