Maintaining its liberal traditions and respect for other faiths notwithstanding the gravest provocations from the Islamist terrorists,the U.K.has anandoned its plans to force foreign religious leaders including ‘imams’ (leaders of prayers in mosques) to take a “Britishness” test before being allowed to come to the U.K. and preach in religious places including mosques.
The rule was mooted amid concerns that semi-literate and radical ‘imams’ from the Indian sub-continent were fuelling extremism among gullible British Muslims.
Muslim and other faith leaders had protested that it would be discriminatory to treat foreign-born preachers differently from other immigrants.
