Withdrawal of foriegn troops could result in collapse of Afghanistan

There was a strong sense of hope and progress in 2001 when the US drove away the Taliban to the far outskirts and mountains of Afghanistan in their immediate retaliation to the 9/1 attacks by al-Qaeda. But six years down the line and the country is struggling to even maintain peace and stability, let alone gallop towards prosperity. The 70,000 odd Afghan military personnel might appear huge in number, but the naked truth is that they are still heavily dependent on foreign forces to fight the Taliban insurgents. The latest report on the escalating violence in Afghanistan suggest that it is up by 30% over last year and the statistics indeed do not augur good times for the war-ravaged nation. The US still head the military operation in the Asian nation but talks of withdrawal of troops by other nations, including Canada have been rife. The whispers of pullout of foreign troops from Afghanistan have led many to predict an immediate collapse of the Afghan government. United Nations’ Afghan envoy, Tom Koenigs, is the latest figure to add his name to the list of those against any troop pullout from the nation. M. Koenigs is certain that the Afghan army cannot contain the Taliban militant insurgency on its own and desperately needs foreign help to do so. One of the prominent nations still involved in Afghanistan is Canada, which has no fewer than 2,500 troops stationed there. In the past few months, the opposition party in Canada has consistently demanded no troop-deployment extension beyond February 2009. Should all nations, who have their troops stationed in Afghanistan, decide to withdraw, the nation could easily fall into the hands of the Taliban once again. War or No War: Pakistan has to lose nothing

A comment on a concerned news item in The Economist makes an interesting analysis. All the conversation about Jinnah and disowning is all history and we should not discuss as we all have level of belief in faith. Leave the past and discuss the present. Let us be all sensible about India and Pakistan. We all know what Indians have done in 1970 with Pakistan by ripping the country into two pieces, means separating Bangladesh, it is all written and discussed. Mumbai attacks, very sad and very bad. But waging a war against Pakistan, its another drama repeated by Indian congress to win next term in the office, as previously done by a man recently missed a shoe on his face in Iraq, George W Bush. Why India cannot afford a war with Pakistan, because their economy is already in stimulus contracting, facts: Poor—India is home to some two-fifths of the world’s malnourished children (Economist.com Dec 11 2008) GDP forecast for 2009 is 5.0 (Oxford Economic Report Dec 08) Sharp fall of 12% in export (Citibank Economic Report) 1.4 million people ready for work in 2009 (Citibank Economic Report). Automotive industry suspended production and shut plants(Economist.com Dec 11 2008) Decline in Indian Rupee against US$ (Citiban Economic Report Dec 08) Well, I am not suggesting industrialized India is on the verge of falling but it is possible for emerging India to face worst unemployment in history and popular IT city Banglore to be full of jobless people. Millions $’s of investment in industrialized India may be rotten if India go ahead with the war. In contrast Pakistan got nothing to lose as they are facing the worst economic crisis, with or without war. Coming to war on terror. What ever happened on 9/11 change the world. Who did such a crime cost the innocent people that they never forget. I have deep sympathy for them as well should. But we cannot blame Pakistan for training and supplying terrorist in the world. Because these terrorist were the called ‘Heroes’ once by American when they invaded Afghanistan to save that country from Russia. When these heroes got nothing to do after such bloody religious war, and Americans wants to get rid of them, so they start calling them terrorist, because they know they made these heroes a vicious people who only know how to kill humans. Here I am not defending a terrorist, my only concern here is why they were trained by Americans in the first place? Now these terrorist have spread all over the south Asia. And by taking the advantage, India supporting them to attack suburbs of Pakistan such as blast in Marriot Hotel, Islamabad. Facts, why India have open number of Embassies and council offices in Afghanistan, specifically near border from Pakistan. To conclude, it is in the best interest of India to remain calm and not support any such act that led booming India to become loosing India. It will be in the best interest of India to keep the peace in the region and in order to allow its industrialized economy to reach its boom.

Terrorism’s impact on the commodities market

Do you remember where you were during the 9/11 attacks back in 2001? If you were like most of us, you will most likely never forget about the event which changed how much of the world views its security measures (which are still often lacking, despite their various invasions of our privacy). But by way of more than just the threat of more massive attacks, 9/11′s attacks changed many of the ways in which we view the basic parts of our society. For instance, in a world in which any tall building is suddenly far less safe than we previously envisioned, how are we to invest, so as to preserve and grow our retirement nest eggs? A lot of businesses saw their shares drop after 9/11. When people feel threatened, they do tend to want to retreat back into “safe” things such as cash and various types of bonds and commodities. In a pinch, gold and silver investments also tend to seem safe, and thus become the focus of many people’s long term portfolios. This emphasis on keeping what one has, however, has a disturbing tendency to turn people away from a bit of good, simple investing common sense. And all of this really does say nothing of the fact that gold, silver and any other types of commodities are really only good “if society crumbles” if you keep them well defended on your own property. As people become afraid of one more catastrophe, their money tends to flow into something which is tangible – which, as we talked about a moment ago, is just plain silly. At the same time, a lot of commodities can actually see their prices drop dramatically in the immediate after math of a terrorist attack. Perhaps the only thing which can be said uniformly about what people do with their investing decisions after terrorists have struck is that people continue to make bizarre, often ill informed choices on where to put their money.
